Advanced bachelor students and/or graduate students in a health – environment related field. employees in a governmental institution or Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with a specific interest in planetary health.
INTENSITY
First week: 30 hours
Complete experience: 100 hours
What is the Summer School about?
The purpose of this summer school is to collectively reflect on the complexity of the world we live in, and in particular, the complexity of the relationship between environment, health, and societal inequalities. These questions will be addressed with a particular focus on how technologies and eHealth can be used as a tool to overcome the growing gap in inequalities. eHealth is defined by the World Health Organization as the cost-effective and secure use of information and communications technologies in support of health and health-related fields, including research.
In this summer school you will learn about:
- Introduction to Planetary health
- Exposure assessment and molecular epidemiology
- Experiences from around the world
- Cultural acceptability and between/within comparisons
- eHealth & citizen science
Methodology:
The summer school is 2 weeks long and will run in parallel in Groningen (the Netherlands) and Medellin (Colombia), with some of the activities in a shared virtual room and some other activities taking place in each location such as field trips .
The intercultural nature of the summer school will be key in making sure that different socio-cultural aspects are at the core of the teaching content
The first week will be mainly in english depending on the speakers’s native language and preference. The second week will be in the language of each location (University of Antioquia-spanish and University of Groningen-english).

COST
- First week: 2% of the GDP according to the country of origin of the student. Fees will be capped at €400 to avoid unrealistic values.
- Second week
* A fee of €300 for students from RUG, UdeA, partners of the RUG -including ENLIGHT- and students from other universities, who come from low-middle income countries.
* A fee of €500 for students from other universities, who come from high income countries. A list of high income countries from the World Bank can be seen here.
